When trying to assess “People and Culture”, we use a wide range of methods. One of which is to read glass door reviews of a company that might be on a watchlist, or to perhaps take the cultural temperature of a portfolio company. That is why when the “best places to work” list is released each year, we take notice.
Zillow has been a consistent Glassdoor performer for some time, but we were most interested to see Ellie Mae on the list as well this year at #40. Also of note, Jonathan Corr, Ellie CEO, made his debut in “top CEO” rankings at #14.
Interestingly, there have been numerous studies completed on the correlation between the appearance on this list and stock returns – between 2009 and 2014, a portfolio of companies that appeared on the “Best places to work list” outperformed the market (S&P 500) by 115%.
